Ellensburg, located in the heart of Washington, is the county seat and the largest city in Kittitas County. The Cascade Mountain Range screens much of the rainfall giving Ellensburg a dry climate with four distinct seasons. Ellensburg is home to Central Washington University which has an enrollment of about 8,000 students. Central Washington University houses the Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute. This institute offers Chimposiums ? one hour educational workshops involving the world renowned chimpanzees who have acquired extensive American Sign Language vocabularies. Ellensburg?s historic shopping district offers a wide variety of shops and is the location of the Clymer Museum of Art. Some of the many events held in Ellensburg are the Ellensburg Art Show and Auction, Whiskey Dick Triathlon, Jazz in the Valley and the Kittitas County Fair and Ellensburg Rodeo.
